All the way in Aguada, Puerto Rico, this is SuperMom, Camila, mother to a one-year-old baby boy named Derek and wife to her wonderful husband (her best friend). Camila is a business owner and a health coach who helps people (mostly women) get in the best shape and health of their lives. She is passionate about inspiring others to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. Both Camila and her husband work together on helping their clients reach their health and fitness goals. They build nutrition programs, meal plans and workout routines that are effective for their clients to help them reach their personal goals.
When I asked Camila what makes her a SuperMom, this was her response: "I believe that I am a SuperMom because I always give my very best to my son. I have high standards for most of the things I do in life, but when it comes to being a mother, I am outstanding. When I became pregnant I was nervous and excited for a new lifestyle that was coming my way, but I was not ready. Let's put it like this, I procrastinated during my pregnancy on becoming a mother. For obvious reasons I took good care of my health and my baby's health, but I delayed buying baby stuff, I didn't read, I didn't want to plan a baby shower, I took too much "advice" that just made me frightened, I was honestly all over the place. So I over worried because I didn't know what to expect and how much my life was going to change after Derek was born. But I managed and had everything ready for his birth. It was all last minute, but it was done. Derek was born on January 20th, 2015 at 1:46am and I was so incredibly happy! I experienced a joy bigger than I had ever experienced before. My birth was hard, I did it at the hospital and used NO medications at all because I just wanted the best for my baby and avoid a C-section at all cost. FYI, Puerto Rico has one of the highest C-section rates. After his birth I wanted to do everything the natural way, so I was all for breastfeeding of course. To my huge surprise, the baby had a difficult time latching. The only way I could properly give breast milk was with the breast pump, so I became married to my breast pump too. The first month was beautiful and hard. I was so happy to have my sweet baby boy with me but I was not okay. I was not happy. My parents and other family members were meddling into my way of being a mother, judging every step I took and waiting for me to fail. My husband didn't understand what I was going through and he went back to work because our business wasn't doing well so we had to work extra. I felt very alone and tired during those days but I learned to take care of the baby all by myself. I was happy to be with my baby but sad by how I was getting treated because no one understood my own personal standards that I had for raising my child. Those days were the hardest I've gone through but have definitely marked a before and after in my life. I became stronger. I am stubborn, but it's because I have strong beliefs and at the end of the day, all I desired was the best for my baby. These hardships lasted for about three months. I spoke to my husband and ordered him to take a paternity leave because he was in this with me. Family is always first, the business comes after. He took the leave and helped a lot with the baby. Also, as a couple we were doing better and our love became stronger. Those first three months, made me a SuperMom. I confronted more hardships in such a short period of time than ever before. Either I was going to get through it as a loser or as a winner. My personality and the way I am, wouldn't allow me to settle for less, so I pulled through and came out as a SuperMom. After that, I overcame myself and old limiting beliefs I had about weight loss and getting fit. I thought that now as a new mom, I wasn't going to be able to be as thin as I was before because now "I didn't have the time". I was stuck for a while there until September 5, 2015, when I decided to change my bad eating habits and turn them into good one. I started taking my nutrition program seriously, started working out and eating the right foods and in five months, I managed to drop 20 pounds and 10% body fat. I have been working on learning to love who I am and respect myself, and by changing my mindset, my fitness journey has turned into a smoother one. I barely get sick now, always energetic and feel like I am able to set a good example for my child because he will see the value of being a healthy person. These are my most life changing lessons, challenges and hardships that I have confronted in one year as a new mother. I am proud of what I have accomplished and look forward to becoming a better example for my son, Derek. I am a SuperMom in the making."
